When I came across the All Japan Towers (japantowers.jp), I thought it was a good reason to go check out towers and get a stamp. Some of the towers I have been to before, but getting a stamp in a book seems to be a bit more cooler IMO.
I was suppose to start this by getting Sapporo TV tower done, but since I didn’t make it to Sapporo, it actually started with Chiba Port Tower.
The book costs 300 yen and it’s pretty simple. You go any of the 19 towers, sometimes staff will stamp it or you go up and stamp it.
This gives another record of you going to some tower and saying you were there. Because before this, I wouldn’t put going up a tower as a priority. Now that it is another added layer to my trips to Japan…. I must do it! LOL.
While I visited a few towers, 2 of them were not accessible for the most part. Kobe Port Tower was underconstruction.. so I couldn’t get the stamp. Tsutenkaku had a 70min wait… and I am not going to do that.
1st Tower was Chiba Port Tower. Friendly staff, but I really enjoyed this tower as it wasn’t busy and they had extra stamps on the observation floors.
Next day, I went to Tokyo Tower. I’ve been there before with Jacob, but to go there for the stamp and a goshuin (there’s a temple there too) was kind of interesting. This is truly a tourist attraction and was busy!
I then visited the Chubu Electric Mirai Tower in Nagoya. I know all these towers are gorgeous at night.. I was able to catch this one and it was really nice. This was busy too, but it felt that there was more to see and do here. Like it didn’t feel empty, so this was one of my favorite towers on this visit.
I was in Osaka the next day and while I stayed in Shinsekai, where Tsutenkaku was, I didn’t get a chance to go in. The night I was going to go had a HUGE line and a 70 minute wait period. Last year when I came, it wasn’t lit up.. but this time, it was and it was gorgeous.
I’ll be back in July, so I will definitely go to this. (update – I got the stamp).
Instead, I headed to Umeda Sky building, which was busy too, but not as bad as Tsutenkaku. There was some cool things up here, like the luminescence ground. I didn’t do that the last time I was here.
The next tower was Fukuoka Tower. I have never been here before, but I saw it the night before from Ohori Park and it was gorgeous!
The reason why I haven’t been here before is because it was a good walk to get to it. It is really cool though.
When I went to Kyoto, I had to go up Kyoto Tower. I’ve seen Kyoto Tower many times and even at night is super gorgeous, but I have never gone up it. This time, I did with Ishii-san. It was cool to see as Kyoto doesn’t have skyscrapers.
On the way back to Osaka, I stopped by Kobe Port Tower in hopes of getting a stamp. Unfortunately, the store was under construction, so I could only admire it from outside.
The last tower on this trip was Yokohama Marine Tower, which was also a great visit! It was gorgeous at night, but the staff was friendly and there was a light show up top.
I was hoping to get the stamps of Tsutenkaku and Kobe Port tower, but again, that didn’t work out. The 3 other towers I didn’t get a chance to see were: Kaikyo Yume Tower in Shimonoseki, Higashiyama Sky Tower in Nagoya and Sapporo TV tower in Sapporo.
Returning to Japan in July, I was going through the Hokuriku region. This would give me access to a few towers. Unfortunately… it was a failure.
1st Tower was Crossland Oyabe. Online the closing time said 8pm. Well, I got there 6:30pm and it was closed. Not only that, transportation was done for the day, so I had to walk back to the train station. I was definitely not happy.
2nd Tower was Tojinbo towers in Fukui. I miscalculated the time and realized it would take longer to get to the tower.. so I opted not to go. I did enjoy Fukui, so I will definitely be back in the future.
3rd Tower was Twin Arch 138. We were on our way back from Gujo Hachiman and I was hoping to get the stamp and check out this tower. Unfortunately, it was closed when we got there. I think there was some construction going on. This looked really interesting!
4th Tower, another miss, was Higashiyama Sky Tower in Nagoya. The last day in Nagoya, I was hoping to get there in the afternoon to check it out… but with having family and we were all doing something different.. I didn’t make it out that way.
On my 3rd trip of 2024, I had the focus on staying and exploring the Tohoku region, with the Tohoku Pass. I had 2 towers in mind, but only able to do 1.
1st Tower was Choshi Port Tower. That was far east Chiba! I went there and walked to the tower.
The 2nd tower was Gyoda Tower. It was recently added to the All Japan Towers Federation. But I never made it to even get close. The day I was suppose to go there, I ended up spending time with my friend and looking over my Estima.
April/May 2025 – As of this post (early April), I do have a plan hit 3 that I have missed.
- Higashiyama Sky Tower
- Twin Arch 138
- Gyoda Tower
