Japanese Tram/Streetcar

In 2016, I took the Kyoto Randen line without even thinking about it. I was just trying to get closer to Arashiyama area.

2018’s Japan trip really was the point where I started to understand many of the other train systems. After that, I made it a mission experience Japan’s various trains as much as possible.

Since I was traveling in big cities and sticking to the JR Pass and main lines that served my purpose in those areas, I didn’t realize that other modes of transportation around or they weren’t as visible.

This post is about the trams/trolleys/streetcars I have taken on my travels in Japan.

Trams/Streetcars/Trolleys are different in their own ways.

  • This was truly when I put a lot of attention to trams. I took a few pictures and even got the map to take the tram to the shopping district.
  • I took a couple different version!

Kumamoto

Visiting Kumamoto for the 1st time and right outside the station, the Streetcars were available.

Nagasaki Electric Tramway

This was my 2nd time in Nagasaki, but I would be spending a couple days there. Right outside of the JR Nagasaki station, you have access to the trams that lead you into some of the districts in town.

So I took the tram to the marina area.

  • I only took the Hiroden from Hiroshima to around the Castle and Peace Memorial park area.

Hiroshima Dentetsu

Keifuku Electric Railroad (Kyoto)

This tram I have taken a couple times before.

Kagoshima

  •

Okayama Electric Tramway

Manyo Line, Takaoka

Small tram line in Takaoka.
