Getting to Tokyo Station from Narita Airport
There are 2 express trains that can take you to Tokyo station or close by.
That is the Narita Express or N’EX
and the Keisei Skyliner
After getting your luggage and passing immigration and customs, you head down stairs to where the trains are located.
** This is the time to get you JR Pass (if you purchased one) and get a Suica (prepaid card) before going into Tokyo.
The main and busy stations in Tokyo are not that far from each other. It just depends on where you are staying on your first night.
Narita Express (N’EX)
- Japan Rail (so JR pass can be used, so price is “free”)
- Price is about $30-$40 for the Tokyo Station and Tokyo area stations (such as Shinjuku)
- About 50 minutes to get to Tokyo station.
- Tokyo Station and others such as Shinjuku station give access to many different trains that go in different locations.
* Personal note – I always end my trips in Shinjuku. There is a tattoo friendly capsule hotel (male only) and on the last day, I just get on the N’EX using JR pass and go directly to Narita airport.
Keisei Skyliner
- Goes to Keisei-Ueno station (just south of JR Ueno station – a big station)
- 41 minutes to Keisei-Ueno station
- Cost is about $25 to get to Keisei-Ueno station
* Usually I use this to get into Tokyo area. If you decided to get a JR Pass, it’s about timing when to activate it to use. Depending on when I plan to be on my last days of a trip, I don’t activate my JR Pass (often when you use it on N’EX) until I decided to leave the Tokyo area (usually spend 2-3 days before going to other areas of Japan).
If you look at the map, there last stop for the Skyliner is Keisei-Ueno station. This is NOT Ueno Station. You will see that many train companies share a station and sometimes it is separate.
If you 1st stop is in Tokyo, these are the 2 trains that will take you into the main area from Narita Airport.
