I have been a fan of the JR Pass since 2017. I have gotten one every year (except the pandemic years) and I had always felt they were worth it.
At the end of 2023, the increased the price… Now the 7 day JR Pass is even more expensive than the 14 day JR Pass.
The JR pass is truly and unlimited pass for JR trains. You can hop on and off, pretty much anything JR.
I am going again in July, and this time, I got the 7 day Hokuriku arch pass, which does force me to go a different route. While cheaper, it is a limiting pass.
Today, I decided to use the Japan Rail calculator to see if my JR pass in March/April was worth it. I seriously abuse the pass and go many places. While the calculator only had limited locations, I used the JR Pass on a lot of regular JR lines (Yamanote and Osaka Loop) which wasn’t in the calculator.
I am happy to say, I made it worth it.. even made it worth it if I had 14 day JR Pass!!
